Scrivener: New Software for Writers

The April Southeastern Vermont Computer Users Group meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 7:00 PM, at The Marlboro College Graduate Center. After a short business meeting and our usual question and answer session, Adrian Segar will give a presentation entitled Scrivener: New Software for Writers.

Scrivener is relatively new writing software for the Macintosh. Authors like Michael Marshall Smith, Neil Cross, and Michael Bywater have already switched to the program. Adrian has been using it for the last few months to write his book, and has found it to be a better tool for his writing than anything else he's tried.

Scrivener is a $35 project management tool for writers. It won't tell you how to write - it simply makes all the writing aids you probably already use available in one application. The software provides an environment that integrates an excellent word processing environment in which you can edit multiple documents (individually or merged), a "corkboard" for organizing and storyboarding, an outliner, version management, "no-distraction" full screen writing, support for screenplay/stageplay formatting, document version control, and a flexible export capability. All these capabilities are tied together in an intuitive way; a lot of thought has gone into the program's design and user-interface.

During his presentation, Adrian will demonstrate Scrivener's features and try to communicate why he likes writing using this software.
