Digital Recording on Your Personal Computer

The September Southeastern Vermont Computer Users Group meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 7:00 PM, at The Marlboro College Graduate Center. After a short business meeting and our usual question and answer session, Bill Esses will give a presentation entitled Digital Recording on Your Personal Computer.

The past 10 years has seen the end of analog recording tape and propagated the proliferation of low-cost digital recording for the masses. Practically anyone with a computer and some free software can record and edit audio / music in the privacy of their own hard drive.

In this presentation, Bill will explain the basics of digital recording including...

  • how to produce and record your own CD
  • basic concepts and utilization of non-linear audio
  • software choices available - both free and low-cost
  • the analog side of the process and how to get the best possible sound
  • archiving older analog recordings
  • resources available on the web for the do-it-yourselfer
  • and much, much more...

Bill Esses is an independent music producer / audio engineer and has been involved in making records for the past 21 years. He is also an EMI published songwriter. In the past 5 years since moving to SouthEast Vermont, most of his work has been mixing music CDs for people all over the world in the privacy of his own personal home studio. As the trend in the music world has gone to smaller and smaller budgets and better internet bandwidth has become available to Southeastern Vermont, he has been largely able to do most of his work without the aid of Fedex or the USPS and wonders if he'll ever use all those darn blank CDs that he bought 2 years ago.

About our next meeting.
